News: Daedream Meets West Side Story

On June 1st, 2013, some of the Daedream Mentors and Junior Mentors went to the Shubert Theater to see the Theater Production of West Side Story for the 2013 Mentor Kick Off Event.

The musical was the story of two rival gangs (The Jets and the Sharks) who are fighting with each other.  But, Tony, a Jet, falls in love with Maria, a sister of a member of the Sharks.  This Romeo and Juliet plot had many twists and turns throughout the play, including the deaths of the two leaders of the gang, Riff (Leader of the Jets, played by Theo Lencicki), and Bernardo (Leader of the Sharks, played by Andres Acosta).

The production was started at about 2:00 and ended at about 4:00. (approx. 2 hours)  Many of the people who attended, felt the show was very good and the plot was even better.  Afterwards at the Shake Shack, we met two of the stars of the show, one of them was the Leader of the Jets, Theo Lencicki.  They encouraged us to continue doing Daedream and applauded us for starting at such a young age.  Overall going, to see West Side Story at the Shubert was an unforgettable experience.

Thanks to Ms. Comshaw, Ms. Glenn and Ms. Francis for their creating this opportunity for us. Check back soon for a photo of our autograph page and some other pictures.

Perceptions: What Daedream Means To Me

When I first joined Daedream, I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it.  I didn't think I would be able to dance, act or be on stage.  Ever since I was a kid, I have had trouble doing anything on a stage.  Daedream changed that.

Ever since the first rehearsal, I knew that I would be able to do it.  It just seemed like it was a great program from the start.  Even though I was a little behind, the mentors stayed after rehearsal to help me with my steps.  When Ms.Francis first told me she wanted me to be in the front row of a dance, I knew I was in the right place.  The day I was promoted to Junior Mentor, shocked me, but at the same time made me reflect.  I had only been in the program for about a month and a half, but it felt like years.

Daedream has given me the confidence to do things I thought I never would have done before.  I acted, danced, and played my saxophone in front of almost 600 people!  It felt amazing.  Ms.Francis is a wonderful teacher and director and without her, this program would be nothing.  With her encouragement, I feel I can do anything.

Thank you, Ms.Francis
